What does conform even mean?
In post-production, conform is the process of reassembling an edited sequence using the original, high-resolution camera footage, based on a lower-resolution "offline" edit.
Typically editorial or “offline,” will edit using proxy footage that has a way lower data footprint. The conform artist's job is the match to the final edit by linking up to the high-resolution footage for the finishing process.
This final "online" edit or conform is crucial for high-quality finishing work like color grading and sound mixing, as it ensures that the high-resolution version of the project precisely matches the final locked edit decisions made during the initial editing phase.
